Today is the day where Americans (specifically the procrastinating kind) meet the deadline to file their taxes.  It’s not fun, but in order for schools to be built, roads to be maintained, and infrastructure to be infrastructured taxes are a necessary evil.

So what does that have to do with Obie?

Well, let me tell you:

Because you pay taxes he was able to participate in early intervention.  He had coordinators, therapists, and interventionists since the age of 19 months.

Because you pay taxes he can be in preschool.  He has been in preschool since he was 3.  That’s almost two years, four days a week, three hours a day, qualified teachers, loving aides, therapists, and wonderful schools.

Because you pay taxes, he gets OT therapy in a clinic an hour a week.

Because you pay taxes, he gets speech therapy in a clinic an hour a week.

Because you pay taxes, he gets a home therapist up to 40 hours a week.

Because you pay taxes, he gets health care, which includes prescription coverage, which is super helpful given his healthcare costs far out pace everyone in our family.

Because you pay taxes, he gets a monthly delivery of personal items that go towards helping us meet an incredibly important independence milestone.

Because you pay taxes, we can have respite, which allows us to take a deep breath, recharge, and love him better when he returns.

Because you pay taxes, caring for Obie doesn’t have to be a financial hardship.

So grumble, groan, and roll your eyes when you see the tax bill- but know that your taxes help us every.single.day.
